El rendimiento energ\u00e9tico es siempre especialmente alto en estos conductos. La \u00fanica desventaja con respecto a las alcantarillas normales, las llamadas alcantarillas de gravedad, es que la instalaci\u00f3n de los intercambiadores de calor requiere una obra civil. Hay que destapar las l\u00edneas de presi\u00f3n de las aguas residuales y, en la mayor\u00eda de los casos, se sustituye toda una secci\u00f3n de una l\u00ednea de presi\u00f3n por una nueva con un sistema de intercambiador de calor integrado. En el caso de una nueva construcci\u00f3n o de la rehabilitaci\u00f3n de una l\u00ednea de presi\u00f3n, este enfoque es siempre muy atractivo desde el punto de vista econ\u00f3mico. Si no est\u00e1 prevista la construcci\u00f3n ni la rehabilitaci\u00f3n, el alcance de la obra civil es decisivo para la evaluaci\u00f3n de la eficiencia econ\u00f3mica y difiere en cada proyecto. Dado que las alcantarillas por gravedad son transitables a partir de cierto tama\u00f1o, la instalaci\u00f3n de los intercambiadores de calor no requiere ninguna obra civil.
